The FFRL "Chase for the Cup" is a playoff type format used in both the Magnum and Sportsman Cup Series, both our main Cup features.  For the first 23 (based on 2012 schedule) events in both Cup Divisions, drivers compete in overall points to become eligible for the Chase feature.  Those who don't make the point spread, enter a playoff format known as the "OOC" (Out of Chase) competition.  Guaranteeing competition throughout the season regardless of your experience level.  We believe that the Chase playoff format shouldn't be just based on the amount of wins a driver accumilates over the season, but his/her performance throughout.  Instead of bonus points being awarded for just wins, points are awarded for their top 5 positions and thus added to their 3000 point reset.

The entries into the 'Chase' is based on the amount of active drivers three quarters into the regular season with a minimum of the top five in points guaranteeing entry.  The amount will be determined after the Daytona Night race in the Magnum Cup and after the Chicagoland race in the Sportsman Cup.  See table below:

# of active drivers # of Chase entries
1-20 5
21-24 6
25-28 7
29-32 8
33-36 9
37-42 10

In each of the two series, the winner of the "Chase for the Cup" is crowned Cup Champion of that series.  Along with your Cup Champion, 2nd place in the "Chase" format is also recognized.  And finally, for those who did not enter the Chase, 1st place for "Outside the Chase".  All three winner will be recognized at the awards ceremony at season end.

CHASE FOR THE CUP - BONUS POINT DEFINITION
Bonus points are based on a drivers overall performance throughout the season up to the first race of the Chase.  This format was first used in the 2011 season and provided a very competitive Chase competition in both Magnum and Sportsman Cup divisions.  Drivers in the Chase will have all their points reset to the amount of 3000.  Additional points are added based on the following table:

finishing position bonus pts awarded
1st 4 pts
2nd 3 pts
3rd 2 pts
4th 1 pt
5th 1 pt

CHASE FOR THE CUP - "OOC" (Out of Chase) DEFINITION
The "OOC" is a competition for the Championship for drivers outside the Chase.  These drivers are not to be confused with being crowned the "Cup Champion" but to be titled with "OOC" Winner.  Like the top 2 positions in the "Chase for the Cup", the winner of the "OOC" is also crowned and recognized with awards at season end.

The "OOC" is based off of the point spread of those drivers entering the 'Chase for the Cup'.  In other words, before the points reset, if 1st position in the Chase and the last position in the Chase has a points difference of 350 points, those outside the Chase within that point difference will also have their points reset to 2000 PLUS bonus points awarded.  This will give the series TWO Championships being run at once and will bring the competition evern closer.
