A Battle to the finish at the Glen!

8/11: On Monday night, the Magnum Cup drivers head to Watkins Glen for their 2nd road course on the schedule. Going into these type of courses, you have your drivers that are favored among the rest. Those like Chris Bright, Rock, Andrew Mendes, Will Long and Redgar have shown over these past couple years that they have what it takes to take their car and their team to victory lane.

In the 41 lap scheduled event, three (3) times did the caution come out to bring the field to pace and close it up. Each incident was merely the result of solo spins that did not involve other drivers. The 3 incidents bettered last years by half when in 2008, a total of six were brought out. So a hats off to these guys on a well done race.

During qualifying, the #35 of Andrew Mendes put up a 1:12:880s (121.021 mph) lap time to take the pole and earn the right to parade the field to green. In all road courses at the FFRL, the field lines in single file on the start of the race with no passing until past turn 1. And if that time wasn't fast enough, the #18 of Rock put up lap of 121.724 mph towards the end of the race on lap 39.

With the third caution coming out on lap 34 by a solo spin from the #13, it was going to be a dash to the finish on the final three laps. Taking the green, the #32 of Chris Bright would have to hold back the #18 of Rock, while trying to hit his marks perfectly. One wrong mis-cue would cost him the win after leading 33 of the 41 laps. Through each turn, the two drivers danced their way through the esses, the bus stop, turn eight and to the final stretch. Each not letting off a bit, and in fact, posted their fastest times of the night. With turn eleven in sight, the checkered flag ready to wave, only a .759 second difference separated the two as the #32 of Chris Bright took the win.

Great job to all the drivers and get ready for some fast laps at Michigan!
