Features Quick Links: ffrl pitstop / chase for the cup / rookie challenge / daytona 500 / shootout / all-star challenge / indy 500
Every year, the FFRL attempts to conduct a social get together with it's drivers.  A chance for drivers to meet, discuss the future path of the FFRL, discuss tips and tricks, eat plenty of food, and share in some activities.  Of course, since the drivers of the FFRL are expanded nationwide and into Canada, sometimes it's difficult to find an area where the drivers can get together.  So far, we have been successful five times in accomplishing this.

Location of each "pitstop" generally takes place in a centralized location where a driver in that area, hosts the event and the staff of the FFRL puts it all together.  The "Pitstops" done in each year are noted as the "years" just above this text.  Browsing through them will give you an idea of the FFRL and how this is just more than racing, it's the community.  In 2010, we have scheduled our next Pitstop back in Cleveland, Oh on August 7th and 8th.

2010 7TH ANNUAL PITSTOP - CLEVELAND, OHIO

In 2010, the FFRL had its 7th Annual Pitstop at the home of Doc and Pegleg and home of "NRT Racing" in Cleveland, Ohio.  The Pitstop, as we like to call it, is our way for the FFRL drivers to come together, meet, eat, cover notes and suggestions for the up and coming year, and have plenty of fun.

It's been planned for just under a year and we were quite pleased with the turnout that made this Pitstop such a huge success.  With over 20 attending, it is an absolute joy to actually meet those you have been racing with for years.

The Pitstop began Friday night as those who have arrived early by car or plane, met at a diner in North Olmstead named "Frankies Italian Cuisine".  We filled up the entire banquet room for the most part, make jokes from table to table, ate the delicious food, and talked it up for a couple hours.  At the beginning, I was quite surprised to see that Ruger made it in from Lousiana.  But in a way, a little upset as well.  You see, Ruger made some post in our forums joking about coming to the 7th annual Pitstop.  We knew all year he wasn't.  So I naturally double-dogged-dared him.  And then he made this bet that if he came, I would have to buy him, and his date (who he thought would be my Mom) dinner.  So I agreed.  And there he was and my wallet felt empty.  LOL.  But glad he came.  After dinner some of us gathered our things together to head to our hotels while a few of us went to the micro-brewery down the street called "Fat Heads".

At "Fat Heads" we were there for a couple hours.  Here we learned of a few things.  The blueberry beer (whatever it's called) smelled like Hair Dye, the girls next to us were not single, and bat-wings.  I won't go further into detail.  The atmosphere was pretty good.

At 10:00 am on Saturday morning, most of us were at Doc's house to get ready for the Pitstop.  Savina got to work pretty early along with Angie, Rita, and Mitsy to get the coffee going, donuts and pastires ready as well as yogurt and some other snacks for the morning.  Once we all got acquainted again, we sat in our seats and discussed the future of the FFRL.  All the notes that we covered can be found at the bottom of this page.  Yes, it's a lot but shorter than other years.  Just ask around =)  Our meeting is pretty important because we really take in what the members of the FFRL have to say.  It's always been that way.  And probably why we've been around for almost 10 years now.

During the meeting we had several breaks which included a light lunch and then dinner at the end.  Meatball subs and Taco's were the main entrees and everyone was stuffed.  The ladies did a great job getting all the food together!!!  Once the meeting was over, it was time to head to the evening event at Lorain County Speedway.  A 1/3 mile asphault track.

At the Speedway, the owner of Lorain County Speedway was impressed to hear that we were coming.  We had communicaitons with him weeks in advance.  So impressed by the way, that he gave us the VIP Center to use which was enclosed with air coniditioning and most importantly, our own bathroom.  We treaded in and out of the building watching the race with all of us, well.. about half of us, in our Pitstop t-shirts.  People asked what we were and we all got to talking.  Some of the races were pretty good, even the last one which was mostly hillarious.  As day turned into night, it was time to call it a day.  Some went back to the hotels while others went to some turkish smoking room.  No clue what it's called.  But from what I heard, it was an "experience" to say the least.  LOL

The next morning the group had split up.  While some went to have breakfast as a group before they left, 9 of us headed to the golf course.  And there the fun continued.  At first, we couldn't understand why Chris (aka Baby Genius) could be late and lost with 2 gps systems in his car, but he managed it somehow.  The joke of the day was pretty much all on Duck.  Friday, before we all met for dinner, a few of us went to play golf.  And so.. while I was testing my accuracy, I managed to hit a golf cart, a mobile home, and a house all in one day.  Pretty accurate if I say so myself.  Thank you very much =)  But the joke was on me all day.  However, they seem to forget Bone-drivers long drive that went a total of 6 inches.  Sean's ability to end up in other fairways but the one we're using, etc...   But it was all fun.  After the 18, we said our goodbyes and packed things up to head back and prepare for the 8th annual Pitstop.

(1)  With all cars pitting that are a lap down, allowed the leaders to race without obstacles on the track.

(3)  Issued for:

(b)  Reckless driving that causes damage while pacing or under caution

(c)  Jumping starts and restarts

iv)   “Not permitted to use the apron under race conditions.”

c)    Incident Point

i)     2010 Changes to the IP system seem to work.

(1)  No modifications needed.

ii)    Contesting IP’s.

(1)  Rule has made an affect to some that attempt to argue regularly even though they admit they are at fault.

(a)  Records are not being kept.

(2)  A score card of IP Contest records should be made available and updated each time a contest is made about an IP.  Recommendations: Forum Board sticky thread under series.

iii)   “Contact under pacing” reworded.

(a)  Present: “Turning, or an aggressive contact, without causing damage = 1.5 pts (+ EOLL penalty)”

(i)   Change: “Contact that disrupts the pacing environment for a driver or the field that does not cause damage” = 1.5 (+EOLL Penalty)

(b)  Present: “Aggressive contact causing contact = 2.5 pts (+ BF)”

(i)   Change: “ANY Aggressive contact that causes damage to other drivers other than your own.” = 2.5 pts (+BF Penalty)

d)    NEW – Race Ending Incidents

i)     If an incident takes place at the end of the race whereas drivers will not have enough laps to follow through with the IP penalty, the finishing order at that time will stand with IP’s awarded after the race.

(1)  Ex: Driver in 3rd position causes an incident to the 2nd place driver.  The 3rd place driver will finish in 3rd or 2nd if the case may be.  Currently, we have dropped his/her finishing to tail end of lead lap.  Doing so contradicts the “official results” will stand.

e)    NEW – After race penalties

i)     Penalties occurred after the race will NOT alter a driver’s official finishing positions.

(1)  Penalties will be applied by championship points.

(a)  EX: Winner of race jumps the start on a 1 lap shootout.

(i)   Should there be a set amount of points fined?  (40pts?)

(ii)  Or should the driver take points from the position he/she would have finished in if the penalty was enforced with enough green laps left?

f)    During Race Incident Penalties

i)     Current:  If an incident occurs during the race, the administration staff has 2 laps to determine fault.  The driver is notified and then forced to pit 3rd time by.

(1)  Has caused “attitude” problems on the track and on voice chat

(2)  Drivers have retired from the race.

ii)    Suggestion:

(1)  No determination of fault during race.  Drivers involved in an incident, BOTH drivers pit 2nd time by (not 3rd).  In most circumstances, the one who is wrecked is NOT at fault and has to pit to repair damage.  In this suggestion, it would make the other pit as well.

(2)  IP’s are re-examined after the race to allow a longer review period and discussion.

g)    Thursday Night Series Points

i)     Interest has been noted to make this series more competitive in points.

ii)    Current Point System

(1)  1st = 10 pts

(2)  2nd = 9 pts…

(3)  10th + = 1 pt

(4)  Pole = 1pt

(5)  Highest Climber = 1 pt

(6)  Lead 1 lap = 1 pt

iii)   Suggested

(1)  Must qualify in order to get Highest Climber (Andrew)

(a)  Cannot prove “attempt” in qualifying.  Driver can still “sit” on a slow pole.

(2)  Invert starting lineup. Put leader of points and pole sitter to back of starting field. (Sean)

(a)  Ummm… no.  Sorry Sean.  I can’t see forcing the admins to concentrate on clearing black flags when they should be watching the field.

(3)  Winning driver of race cannot qualify in the next race if bonus points are still given for pole position. (Duck)

(a)  Not quite sure I like this one.

(4)  Remove bonus points for pole, highest climber (Duck)

(a)  Brilliant!  LOL

iv)   Provisional Points are just 1 point.

v)    Any other suggestions to improve the competition value in this series?

h)    “Lucky Dog” modification for N2003

i)     If driver is involved in the wreck, they are not eligible for the free pass.  The free pass is then given to the next driver in line.

(1)  Against Nascar rules

ii)    The driver eligible for the free pass is instructed to pit 2nd or 3rd time around.

(1)  Current: Drivers have to count laps and the admins watch the driver to verify then give the driver the lap back at the start.

(2)  Attempted to “pass the pace” solo in game and was getting various results which included having to clear black flags twice.

iii)   Issue with Lucky Dog Rule:

(1)  Driver “A” is Lucky Dog and there are 4 others a lap down.  Driver “A” pits 3rd time by BUT does a drive through.  The other 3 pit on the 3rd time by and get service.  Driver “A” is supposed to line up at the tail edge of the lead lap BUT the 3 who exit the pits after “A” are told to stay behind not allowing them to line up on the inside.

(a)  Possible force Lucky Dog driver to wait in pit road till all cars are clear.

(b)  Possible to force driver to “speed” through pit road

(i)   May cause situations

i)     Wave Around

i)     Was suggested (Joey) that we implement a “wave around” rule to drivers who are a lap down but do not pit therefore their position would be in front of the race leaders when the race goes green.

(1)  Could deter accidents from happening when the field behind is on fresh tires and on the lead lap.

(a)  Those getting the “wave around” are NOT permitted to pit.

(i)   Must be watched

(2)  Problems:

(a)  Admins would have to clear black flags on the start as well as giving the lucky dog and watching starts through turn 1 and 2.

j)     EOLL

i)     Drivers “EOLL” need to stay on the left side (apron side) of the track prior to the lap before green as a visual notification for signaling approaching drivers to pass.

k)    Late Hits

i)     Drivers who perform late hits after the caution comes out are already penalized with a minimum of 1.5 IP’s or equal to that of the incident.

(1)  Should drivers also be forced to pit 3rd time by?

1)     FFRL OVERALL

a)    Tracks

i)     Sportsman and Diamond will have new setups made for each track.

ii)    With all tracks done for Sportsman and Diamond Series, a one file download update can be applied to all tracks at the same time.

iii)   Problem tracks:

(1)  Daytona Day and Night needs fixed due to flag for hitting the grass. (revamped edition)

b)    Event Names

i)     Current: Drivers who have won an event in any series can choose to have up to 2 track event names that reflect their sponsor.

(1)  Wish to withdrawal the option.  Delay from drivers in response delays scheduling and working on calendars.

(2)  Revert to 2010 Nascar naming schedule?

ii)    VMS – Drivers could purchase up to 2 event names per series to have sponsored using VMS funds.

1)     THE FFRL VMS

a)    Went gold in the 2010 season.

b)    Not fully updated nor accessible on website

i)     Too many personal modifications to ‘finalize’.

ii)    Expecting finished copy by end of season.

c)    Contracts

i)     Drivers must have a contract for EVERY series that they race in.

ii)    For drivers who are single teams, on the league application, there will be a position where they can enter their salary percentage.

iii)   Multi-driver teams, the owner of that team must have contracts for each driver and directed to the league director.

iv)   Contract forms

(1)  Intentions are to have the contracts on our website using hidden email addy’s to submit the application to drivers without having to copy/paste the application from the forums.

d)    Storefront

i)     Intentions are to put together a virtual store front where drivers can purchase items from the VMS on our website.

(1)  Would include:

(a)  Track event names

(b)  Setups

(c)  Paint Templates

(d)  Ability to run special events

(e)  IP buy back’s

(f)  Additional car files

(g)  Team upgrades

e)    Team Points

i)     Teams are recognized as a group of drivers working together and the team that works together the hardest will be recognized by a points system.  The winning team OWNER in each of the 2 main CUP series, will be rewarded at year end and then offered an opportunity for that team owner to purchase awards for their drivers when the FFRL makes their order at year end.

ii)    Points are averaged based on the team’s performance per race.

(1)  1st = 4 pts

(2)  2nd – 3rd = 3 pts

(3)  4th – 5th = 2 pts

(4)  6th – 10th = 1 pt

f)    Penalties and Fines

i)     NO-SHOW

(1)  Drivers posting in the provisional threads are excused from occurring penalties and fines to themselves and the team.

(2)  Drivers not posting

(a)  Team pays for travel costs, shop costs, and entry fees for the event

(b)  Driver is fined $25,000-$40,000 to cover owner costs

ii)    Rule Violations

(1)  Rule Violations will bring fines to both driver and team owner.  Fines for rule violations vary.

1)   OFF-SEASON

a)    Awards ceremony to take place on December 8th, Wednesday at 8pm EST.

i)     Fun race to take place following

ii)    Within the week, awards will be shipped out.

b)    Following Awards ceremony, roughly two week bye for rest.

i)     Practice and testing to begin on December 27th, Monday for once a week.

c)    Practice races in off-season will be shorter.

d)    Two weeks prior to season start, all Series will be running practice at set setup.

e)    One week prior to season start, OPEN servers will be closed.

f)    All drivers will need to submit an application for the new 2011 year to keep track of Series Entries and update personal information.

1)   SEASON 9, 2010

a)    Season starts in February 2011.
